Cuban cobalt: A gateway to strategic minerals politics?

چکیده

This article explores Cuba’s status within the context of strategic minerals politics, focusing specifically on cobalt. Cuba has third largest cobalt reserves in world, which is a crucial element lithium-ion batteries (especially those used electric cars). The US, other hand, sorely lacking cobalt, Washington’s list Strategic Raw Minerals and ranked terms its “supply chain risk”. key issues/questions addressed are: “Cobalt as Material”; an “Overview Cuban Cobalt”; “Cuban Cobalt: Economic Political Implications”. concludes with analysis cobalt’s potential to enhance Havana’s bargaining power respect any negotiations Washington might occur regarding US economic sanctions particular normalization relations general.
